Farmers in Oyam district encouraged to embrace micro scale irrigation

Peter Okello, Senior Agricultural Engineer Oyam District revealed this in an exhibition launch for creating awareness on the small scall irrigation held at in Oyam District at Oyam Boma Ground yesterday on Wednesday 13/09/2023.
He said by engaging in micro scale irrigation, farmers will be able to raise money by growing crops which are valuable since they bring more money to the farmers which enables them to pay the 25% in order to continue with the project of micro scale irrigation.

Okello said, farmers will be expected to pay 25 % and the government contributes 75% to help farmers succeed in the project.

He advised farmers to take the programme seriously since it will help them realize income and improve on their standard of living.

On the other hand, Jacob Odur, the manager Loro Oyam SACCO encouraged farmers to make the best use of the SAACCO through acquiring loans which they give with low interest rates in order for them to benefit more with this project of small scale irrigation.

Fiat Anthony Olang, one of the farmers in Oyam District supported the project and encouraged other farmer to actively participate in the project in order to benefit from the government programmes.

Small scale irrigation is one of the projects with support from the government of Uganda and Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).
