Oyam woman MP aspirant urges unity in consultative meeting

A consultative meeting called by Alice Josephine Etit Oyang, the NRM aspirant for the Oyam Woman MP seat, has concluded successfully, with a call for unity among party members to achieve common goals.

Etit Oyang invited members of the women’s league from all the subcounties in Oyam and some NRM District Executive Committee (DEC) members to a closed-door meeting held at Oyam Annex Guest House. The purpose of the meeting was to seek their support as she vies to become the NRM flag bearer in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Etit explained that the gathering aimed to consult the women on how they could jointly lay strategies to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

Similarly, Jaspher Onena, the NRM Chairperson for Oyam district, emphasised the importance of unity, noting that collaboration is crucial for political success.

Meanwhile, in a twist of events, tensions reportedly escalated between two National Resistance Movement (NRM) members over 100,000 shillings meant for refreshments during the consultative meeting.

Sources, who requested anonymity for their safety, revealed that the conflict began when Oyam North County MP aspirant Daniel Bala provided the money to support his colleague in purchasing refreshments for the invited attendees.

Conny Atoo, the Oyam town council female councillor, accused Martin Abila, the NRM district vice chairperson, and some NRM DEC members of planning to distribute the money among all attendees instead of only those from Oyam North, where Bala is expected to contest.

Although the meeting was closed to journalists, Martin Abila explained that Atoo insisted the money should benefit only Oyam North attendees.

When contacted, Conny Atoo distanced herself from the quarrel and urged the media to avoid spreading gossip.
