Kampala Boys, an association of 36 reformed gangs based in Oyam Town Council, Oyam District, has split over donated items from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Oyam North, Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku.
Recently, MP Apio Otuku donated 300 broilers to the group as part of an empowerment project aimed at improving their livelihoods.
However, within just two months, members of Kampala Boys split due to disagreements over how to manage the donated chicken and mismanagement
Dilish Okello, the Vice Chairperson of the group, said some members accused others of mismanaging the resources, leading to internal conflicts and division within the group.
She mentioned that the incident happened abruptly, and they have not yet informed Mp Apio Otuku about the distribution of the chicken, as the birds are still immature.
Issac Ojok, the Secretary of Kampala Boys, claimed that some selfish members influenced others, which eventually led to the premature distribution of the birds.
Bonny Amoki, Patron of the group explained that the distribution was due to lack of space to accommodate these chicken.
In his response, Hudson Ocen, the Chairman of Kampala Boys, denied allegations that the group was formed to extort from politicians.
He clarified that they do not approach politicians to request assistance.
The decision by group members to share immature chickens has left community members questioning whether Kampala Boys can continue benefiting from the support provided by politicians and other stakeholders.
