Enterprise Uganda Trains Over 150 PDM Beneficiaries in Oyam on Mindset Change, Financial Literacy, and Agribusiness Growth
Over 150 Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries, leaders, and farmers received training on mindset change in Oyam Town Council. The training, held yesterday at Oyam District headquarters, was organized by Uganda Government through Enterprise Uganda to address challenges of traditional farming norms and inspire farmers to embrace agribusiness and economic self-reliance.
The program focused on three key areas: mindset change, financial literacy, and goal setting.
Noah Wandara, Director of Growth-Oriented Enterprise and Training at Enterprise Uganda, emphasized that the organization is working closely with government to train PDM beneficiaries on business mindset et change. He urged participants to shift their perspective and treat farming as a business, stressing that individuals must adopt new approaches to achieve sustainable growth.

Paul Otim, Regional Enterprise Officer for Northern Uganda, highlighted Oyam Town Council’s untapped potential. He encouraged communities in the Lango and Acholi sub-regions to use local resources to improve livelihoods.
Community voices also reflected optimism. Miriam Atoo, Vice Chairperson LC1 of Nursing Quarter, pledged to train women in her village on mindset change and proper use of business funds. Lawrence Ogwang of Ajuri Village appreciated the government and Enterprise Uganda, noting that he had learned how to avoid losses, make profits, save money, and evaluate his maize farming for profitability.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Oyam, Patrick Ocen Ebong, cautioned against misuse of PDM funds. He noted that the President is unhappy with cases of mismanagement and corruption, warning district technical staff to avoid practices that could tarnish their reputation. He reiterated that both those who give and those who solicit money for corruption are equally guilty.
In his closing remarks, Clement Emmanuel Otim, Principal Assistant Secretary of Oyam District, urged farmers to make the best use of PDM funds and begin repayment to support the establishment of parish banks in the future.
This training marks a significant step in transforming farming practices in Oyam Town Council, with leaders and farmers alike committing to embrace agribusiness for sustainable development.
