Security agencies commended for peaceful LC I elections in Kwania

Security agencies in Kwania District have been commended for maintaining law and order during the Local Council I (LC I) elections, which were conducted peacefully across the district.

The security operation was led by Kwania Deputy Resident District Commissioner Abraham Aturu, District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Ola Sam, Deputy DISO Frank Kyambadde, and District Police Commander (DPC) SP Paul Kadogo.

The officers were deployed to polling stations across the district to protect electoral officials, manage crowds, and prevent disruptions during the voting process.

From the early morning of 28 July 2026, police officers were stationed at polling stations as residents turned out to elect their village chairpersons. They worked alongside Electoral Commission officials and local leaders to ensure that voting was conducted in accordance with established guidelines.

Although minor disagreements were reported during the verification of the voters’ register in some villages, police intervened promptly and resolved the issues before they could escalate.

Sarah Kezia Birungi, the Kwania District Returning Officer, praised the security personnel for maintaining peace and order throughout the exercise.

“I want to salute the security agencies, the media, and all stakeholders for the commitment they demonstrated during the exercise. I commend the security officers who remained vigilant and professional in ensuring that every eligible voter exercised their democratic right in a peaceful environment,” she said.

Birungi also commended residents for remaining calm and cooperating with the security personnel throughout the electoral process.

“We also appreciate the people of Kwania for remaining peaceful throughout the electoral process and electing leaders of their choice,” she said.

Kwania Deputy Resident District Commissioner Abraham Aturu warned anyone who might attempt to disrupt the remaining electoral activities that the security agencies would continue to enforce the law.

“Our responsibility is to protect every citizen and ensure that elections are conducted in accordance with the law. We shall continue providing security until the entire electoral process is concluded. It is our core responsibility to maintain security, and anyone who thinks we are engaging in politics is wasting their time,” Aturu said.

Residents who spoke to this publication commended the cooperation between the security agencies and Electoral Commission officials, saying the peaceful environment enabled voting to proceed smoothly in most villages.

Oluma Majit, the LC I Chairperson of Olami B Cell in Aduku Town Council, who was re-elected, welcomed the role played by the security agencies during the elections.

“The role played by the security agencies from the outset of the elections contributed to the peaceful outcome we are witnessing today,” he said in a telephone interview on Sunday.

Another resident, Willy Akwero of Inyer Village, said the security personnel under the command of Aturu maintained peace throughout the electoral process without favour or bias.

“I hope Aturu and the new DPC, SP Kadogo, remain in Kwania. They should not be transferred,” he said.

The LC I elections were successfully conducted in all 447 villages in Kwania District. Elections in 12 polling stations, which had earlier been postponed, were also successfully held on 1 August 2026.
