Oyam District has received a vehicle from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to strengthen the implementation of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project, UCMAT.

During the handover ceremony at the Oyam District Production Office, Resident District Commissioner Sgt. Shilako James praised the ministry for its significant support in monitoring climate-smart initiatives. He urged the production department to safeguard the vehicle, stressing that it should not be lent to other departments or misused. He further advised against fueling from roadside stations and emphasized the importance of regular servicing to ensure proper use.

Sgt. Shilako also directed the production department to organize community barazas across different sub-counties to educate farmers about the Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project introduced by the ministry.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, PAS Clement Emmanuel Otim highlighted the demanding nature of the project. He called on the focal point person to work diligently so that Oyam District contributes to Uganda’s Vision 2040 and fulfills the presidential goal of putting money into farmers’ pockets. He cautioned against leaving the project vehicle entirely in the hands of drivers, describing it as a “no-go zone” vehicle.

Vice Chairman of Oyam District Local Government, Apali Ceasor, expressed gratitude to the government for trusting Oyam. He noted that the vehicle will improve project implementation and help farmers better understand the program.

Production and Marketing Officer Cox Albino Ogwal also appreciated the ministry for selecting Oyam among the 69 districts benefiting from the program. He emphasized that only the authorized driver should operate the vehicle as directed by the ministry.

Focal point person Dr. Ronald Were expressed excitement over the donation, urging farmers to take full advantage of the project. He pledged to ensure that Oyam District shines among the beneficiary districts by the end of the program.
