The Principal Assistant Secretary of Oyam District, Mr Clement Otim, has called upon councillors of Minakulu Sub-county to put aside unnecessary conflicts and focus on unity and development for the benefit of the people who entrusted them with leadership.

His remarks came during the swearing-in ceremony at Minakulu Sub-county, following tensions between the councillor for Adel Parish and LC3 Chairperson Mr Simon Ayela over executive appointments.

Mr Otim reminded councillors that their mandate is to serve their communities by lobbying for resources regardless of political affiliation, whether UPC, NUP or NRM. He emphasised the importance of capacity building, noting that many local councillors have limited knowledge of national priorities such as road construction and therefore require training in budgeting and local government operations.

He urged both the councillor from Adel Parish and the LC3 chairperson to work together for the good of Minakulu Sub-county, stressing that voters expect service delivery, not division.

Mr Innocent Ogwang, the male LC5 councillor representing Minakulu at Oyam District, cautioned leaders against favouritism, warning that unequal resource allocation would erode community trust.

Ms Monica Okoi, the female LC5 councillor, encouraged councillors to prioritise love and unity in addressing challenges in education and health, warning that internal conflicts could split the council into factions. She appealed to both the chairperson and the speaker to unite councillors across party lines, emphasising that this is a time for work, not politics.

Ms Sharon Aceng, the female youth councillor and newly elected chairperson of the General Purpose Committee, echoed calls for unity but expressed concern that Adel Parish had been excluded from appointments. While acknowledging that the chairperson holds authority, she urged him to treat all parishes equally, reminding leaders that the electorate expects fair service delivery.

Meanwhile, LC3 Chairperson Mr Simon Ayela announced his team of secretaries as follows:

  • Vice Chairperson – Ms Anaco Judith
  • Finance, Planning and Administration – Mr Egole Stephen
  • Health, Education and Community-Based Services – Ms Akidi Christine
  • Works, Technical Services, Production, Marketing and Natural Resources – Ms Akello Lucy

The ceremony concluded with a strong appeal for unity, inclusiveness and commitment to development, as leaders pledged to serve the people of Minakulu Sub-county with fairness and dedication.
