Oyam man subjected to community service for stealing a bunch of banana

Ajuta told Shine FM that he committed the crime because of hunger.

Local council one court of Omoro Cell in Iceme Town Council, Oyam District on Tuesday subjected Morish Ajuta, age 32 to community service for stealing a bunch of banana valued at less than 5000/=.

Ajuta told court that he stole the banana from the farm of Peter Ayai on Tuesday night because he was hungry.

Tonny Olang, the local council one chairperson for Omoro cell, says Ajuta pleaded guilty and court decided to give him community service of cleaning the trading centre and later dig two acre of Ayai’s garden.

The offence of theft, as established in section 252 of the Penal Code Act, is punishable by a maximum of five years imprisonment on conviction.
