Kwania District MPs have turned up the pressure on government to extend electricity to government-aided schools and trading centres across the district.
The Kwania District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Kenny Auma and Kwania County MP, Hon. Tony Eron, say reliable electricity is critical to improving education, expanding businesses and creating jobs.
The legislators made the call on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, while debating a statement on rural electrification presented to Parliament by the Minister of State for Energy, Hon. Sidronius Okaasai.
Hon. Kenny Auma urged Parliament to provide funding in the next financial year’s budget to connect underserved schools and trading centres to the national electricity grid.
She said the lack of power is disrupting learning, limiting business opportunities and slowing development in several communities across Kwania.
Auma called on the government and relevant agencies to include the required funds in the upcoming budget and connect the affected institutions and trading centres without further delay.
Meanwhile, Kwania County MP Tony Eron asked the Minister of State for Energy to speed up the connection of trading centres that remain without electricity.
He cited Etekiber, Otura, Anamobwola and Teilwa, among other growing trading centres in his constituency.

Residents who spoke to our reporter welcomed the MPs’ efforts, saying electricity is no longer a luxury but a basic requirement for quality education, economic growth and improved livelihoods.
Alfred Alori, a resident of Inomo Town Council, commended MP Auma for pushing for electricity extension, saying the project would help address the economic challenges facing the area.
Another resident, Ogwal Moses Otema, from Widam-Apita Village in Aornga Parish, Nambieso Sub-county, praised MP Eron for what he described as a major push to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
State Minister for Energy, Hon Sidronius Okaasai acknowledges that electricity is an enabler for development and tops government’s priorities. He said the concerns would be addressed.
