The newly elected District Chairman of Oyam, Hon Nelson Adea Akar, has pledged to dedicate his five-year tenure to improving the livelihoods and wellbeing of the people of Oyam.
Sworn into office on May 26, 2026, the Chairman emphasized that his leadership will be open, transparent, and focused on service delivery.
Speaking during his first official interaction with the District Executive Committee (DEC) and Heads of Department at Kacoke Madit Hotel in Gulu city on June 11, 2026, Hon Adea outlined his vision of building synergies and strengthening teamwork to achieve long-term success.
He paid tribute to past leaders, notably the late Colonel Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo, Oyam’s founding District Chairman, and announced plans to construct a monument in his honor at the district headquarters roundabout.
The Chairman also proposed a budget review to align resources with community needs and promised to tour all departments and sub-counties with his executive team to foster collaboration and strengthen working relationships.
Key discussions at the meeting included setting priorities for government program implementation, establishing standards for success, and reviewing departmental projects from the closing financial year 2025/26 while planning for 2026/27.
Chief Administrative Officer Fredrick Herbert Kitutu applauded the initiative, committing to budget for regular team-building activities to enhance capacity and cooperation.
The meeting brought together District Executive members, the Speaker of Oyam Council, Heads of Department, and other technical staff, marking the beginning of a united effort to drive Oyam toward growth and prosperity.
