Residents of Acet Otwo Village in Myene Parish, Oyam District were left in shock on Saturday, September 5, 2026, after a 42-year-old woman set her house on fire.

The woman has been identified as Eunice Tino, a member of the Atek Angullu clan and mother of more than four children. She is said to have set her six-room house ablaze at around 5:00 p.m. in the evening.

Eunice Tino, who has long been known in the community for irresponsible drinking, was reported to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. The fire completely destroyed her home and nothing was salvaged, including food, clothes, utensils, and other household property.

Speaking to our reporter, Mr. Opio Tonny, the LC1 chairperson of the area, confirmed the incident. He revealed that during his communication with the victim, she expressed frustration over family disputes. According to her, after the death of her husband, she was left with four cows which were later sold by her children. When she requested a share of the money to construct a modern house, her children ignored her plea, leaving her deeply disappointed.

This act has sparked mixed reactions among community members. Some described it as shameful and disgraceful, stressing that such behavior is unacceptable for any woman regardless of anger or frustration. They urged members of the community to learn peaceful ways of resolving conflicts rather than resorting to destructive actions.

At press time, Eunice Tino was still detained at Acimi Police Station as investigations into the matter continued.
