The Parish Priest of Acaba Oporiwie St. Peter’s, Rev. Geoffrey Ogwal, serving in Oyam Urban Archdeaconry of West Lango Diocese, has expressed deep appreciation to the alcoholic community of Kigumba Trading Center in Atek Ober Parish, Acaba Sub County, for organizing a one-day fellowship that brought together individuals often marginalized in society.
Speaking to our reporter on Sunday after the fellowship, Rev. Ogwal commended the local people, particularly those commonly referred to as drankos, for their willingness to gather in prayer and fellowship. He urged them to continue attending church services regularly as a way of repenting and transforming their lives.
Rev. Ogwal noted that some members of the community openly testified that they had never attended church before. He emphasized that as servants of God, it is not enough to remain within the walls of the church, but they must reach out to such groups with compassion, reminding them that God’s love extends to all people regardless of their background.
According to the chairperson of the drankos, Mr. Atim Patrick, the fellowship was organized with the purpose of encouraging those who rarely pray to draw closer to God. He explained that many alcohol consumers are suffering spiritually and socially, with their homes remaining undeveloped and their families facing challenges due to the destructive nature of alcoholism. He stressed that such gatherings are vital in helping people recognize the need for change and renewal in their lives.
Several Christians who attended the fellowship also expressed gratitude to the organizers, noting that the initiative was a powerful step toward community transformation. They appealed for similar gatherings to be held again in the future, highlighting that such events not only strengthen faith but also foster unity and hope among people who are often excluded from mainstream religious activities.
