Link schoolteachers in Oyam District have been urged to embrace continuous professional development to improve teaching methods and learner performance.

The call was made during a capacity-building training held recently at Abok Primary School, bringing together teachers from schools receiving learners who have graduated from Seed Schools.

The participating schools included Otwal Primary School, Wii Agaba Primary School, Abela Primary School, Onekgwok Primary School, Akuca Primary School , Angolo Primary School and others.

Hellen Keller Akengo, a programme officer at Geneva Global, the non-governmental organisation funding the Seed Schools project, said the training aimed to orient link schoolteachers on effective teaching methodologies and the use of learning aids as they prepare to receive learners transitioning from Seed Schools into formal education.

Patrick Okech, a Coordinating Centre Tutor attached to Loro Core Primary Teachers College, encouraged teachers to take advantage of every learning opportunity to acquire new skills that could improve their teaching performance and, ultimately, learner achievement.

Okech cautioned against complacency among teachers who believe their existing knowledge is sufficient to serve them throughout their careers, describing the attitude as detrimental to professional growth.

Gloria Akori of Onekgwok Primary School and Denis Opige of Wii Agaba Primary School welcomed the training, saying it had equipped them with new teaching methods, classroom management skills and knowledge of how to use instructional materials effectively to improve teaching and learning

The training is expected to strengthen the capacity of link schoolteachers to support learners transitioning from Seed Schools into the formal education system
