Kwania court grants bail to seven UPC supporters

Aduku Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Kwania District has granted bail to seven UPC supporters accused of involvement in violence during the recently concluded LC2 elections.

The suspects were arrested by police at Kwania Central Police Station between 10 and 13 August 2026, following clashes between UPC and NRM supporters in Apire Parish, Aduku Sub-county.

The violence reportedly left Kwania District Police Commander Paul Kadogo and Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Aturu Abraham injured. Four other residents were also reportedly shot.

Last week, Grade One Magistrate Smith Ogwal remanded the suspects to Kwania Government Prison for one week after reading them seven counts related to alleged acts of violence against the district police commander, the deputy RDC and four other police officers.

The court has now released each suspect on a non-cash bail of Shs1 million. Their sureties have each been bonded at Shs2 million, also on a non-cash basis.

Those granted bail are Patrick Oruru of Teopok Village; Tom Ebong of Alongomula; Tony Otim of Angolenyang; Nelson Waca; Samuel Otoo; Zakayo Ongol; and Apire Parish Councillor Dickens Ogwal. The last four are residents of Apire A Village.

The suspects have been ordered to return to court on 17 September 2026.
