Police in Kitgum District are investigating a case of mob justice that left one man dead in Labet Village, Laro Parish, Lalano Sub‑county, on 12 June 2026 at around 4:00pm.
The deceased has been identified as Okema Richard, a 30‑year‑old resident of Lenglangan Village, Aloro Parish, Lalano Sub‑county, Kitgum District. The matter was reported to Kitgum Central Police Station, where a case of murder by mob was registered. Police officers responded to the scene, processed and documented it, and commenced investigations. The body was later taken to Kitgum General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Statements from witnesses have been recorded, and police are working closely with local leaders to identify and apprehend those involved in the unlawful act.Regional Police Spokesperson IP Oloya Joe condemned the incident, stressing that mob justice is illegal and undermines the rule of law. He urged the public to report suspected offenders to police instead of taking matters into their own hands. Authorities have vowed to pursue all individuals linked to the killing as investigations continue.
