The Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese, Right Reverend Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok, has commissioned two-classroom blocks at Acaba Senior Secondary School, constructed through contributions from parents under the PTA programme.
Bishop Lino praised the hard work of the parents of Acaba and encouraged them to continue supporting the school’s development programme.
He urged parents to avoid acts of discontent with the school authorities, as this would significantly hinder the school’s progress and performance.
Furthermore, Bishop Wanok stated that the purpose of education should be for personal development, not merely to pass examinations. It should teach people how to engage in meaningful recreation, rather than just spending time drinking.
Simon Peter Okeng, the head teacher of Acaba Senior Secondary School, also expressed appreciation for the contributions of the parents, which led to the construction of two classroom blocks capable of accommodating over 100 students.
However, he expressed concern over inadequate classroom space, understaffing, and other challenges facing the school. He appealed to development partners, well-wishers, and Oyam district local government to support learning at Acaba Secondary School.
Simon Peter Okeng has promoted co-curricular activities at the school, which participated in the national football tournament in 2016, 2017, and 2023, and recently won the championship in the Oyam District Patriotism Competition. He has also supported debating, initiated agricultural projects, and undertaken many other initiatives at the school.
Benson Walter Dila Oyuku, the LC5 Chairman for Oyam district, has urged parents to avoid sending their children abroad for education and instead make use of local schools within the district, such as Acaba SS and Abok Seed, among others.
Meanwhile, Father Moses Pascal Omara, the parish priest of Anyeke catholic parish, stated that inadequate funding remains a significant setback to the progress of many schools in Oyam district.
