Aduku Court Jails Councilor, Fines Him Sh500,000 for Disturbing Widow

Aduku Grade One Magistrate Court in Kwania District has sentenced to community service for a period of two months and lavied a fine of 500,000 shillings against James Patrick Alele Lubega, Aboko Parish directly elected Councilor
for threatening a 38-year old widow, a severe violation of human rights.

In April this year, Apio Fatuma, a mother of four and a resident of Odeo Corner village, Aboko Parish in Aduku Sub County dragged Hon. James Patrick Alele Lubega, Aboko Parish directly elected Councilor to court accusing him of threatening violence.

Lubega was arrested and later taken to court.

In a court session presided over by Aduku Grade one Magistrate Smith Ogwal on Tuesday last week, the court sentenced Alele Lubega to community service upto a period of two months and slapped him with a fine of 500,000 shillings for threatening the widow.

Court heard that the accused on the 20th of June this year abused the widow severely and threatened to eliminate her over unclear reasons.

Prosecution told court that Alele Lubega had been texting violent messages intimidating Fatuma after the plaintiff attempted to end the fight between him and the wife.

Lubega pleaded guilty and was fined Shs500,000 and slapped with two months community service sentenced, and told to do the community voluntary service at Aduku Health Center IV hospital for the two month’s sentence.

In a phone interview with our reporter on Monday Apio Fatuma said she was not satisfied with the ruling against Lubega, whom she said had been threatening her for a very long time.

She however asked Lubega to use the court sentence to learn his lessons and change his lifestyles from th primitives to modern.

When contacted over matter, Lubega declined to respond and asked our reporter to look for him physically.

Thomas Opio Okene, a pastor attached to Amuli Baptist Church Kwania and a human rights defender condemned the abuse of the widow.

Opio Okene asked local leaders in the area to lead by example and respect human rights.
