This was revealed by Dr Caroline Agaro who is the Assistant District Health Officer of Oyam District during an interview with our reporter at her office on Tuesday 5th March 2024 where she advises those who are on treatment to continue taking their medicines as it is prescribed to curb down the spread of this deadly disease.

According to Agaro they are experiencing high rate of new HIV infections where people are going through live sex which risk for the spread of disease.

She further identified some new hot spots areas in Oyam district that are leading in new HIV infections and these places includes Mitacoo market, Kamdini, Loro, Oyam Town Council and Bario market where she says most people reports and pitch camp in such markets a day before market day to carry out trade, drinking and having sex and worst of it all they always play unprotected sex leading to high spread of HIV infections.

Meanwhile in Kamdini Town Council Dr Agaro recently told health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng that parents in Kamdini metropolitan town are forcing their children age 10 to 19 into commercial sex with truck drivers and business community which needs an urgent intervention.

Conclusively Agaro also revealed that as a district they are involved in mapping hot spots areas as well as encouraging various stakeholders including cultural and religious leaders to continue sensitising locals on the danger of HIV Aids especially at schools and in public places.

According to a report obtained from Oyam district health department at least 16 people have died from Hiv Aids in Oyam district in the last two quarters.
