3 people arrested over theft of Anyeke Catholic Church cash.

Police in Oyam district have arrested three people of the same family in connection with the theft of unspecified amounts of offertory cash and property belonging to Anyeke Catholic Parish, Oyam district on Wednesday night.

The suspects who are being held at Oyam Central Police Station include; Opio Justine, his mother, Anna Ojok Apil and one Eunice, all locals of Akaidebe cell, Western Ward, Oyam Town Council.

Fr. Moses Pascal Omara, Parish Priest of Anyeke Catholic Parish said they noticed the incident on Thursday morning when they went to celebrate morning mass and found the church door wide open with several property missing.

According to Fr. Omara, the suspects broke the doors of the sacristy and stole an unspecified amount of cash which had been kept for two months, stole the most sacred body of Christ (communion) from the tabernacle and other church property.

He said during investigation, a police sniffer dog led police officers to the home of Opio Justine where some of the church property was recovered.”The police sniffer dog led the team up to opio’s bedroom”

Fr. Omara said;

”Christians who reacted to the incident called for fencing of Anyeke catholic parish and deployment of security to protect property the church.

Moses Arinda, OC CID of Oyam confirmed the arrest of the trio vide SD Ref 03/01/02/2024 at Oyam Central police Station as investigation into the matter continues.
