Police investigate assault of Shine FM journalist

”Oceng claimed that Olong got off from nowhere with some unknown and attack him, leaving him with bodily injuries which he is currently treating”.

Police at Oyam Central Police station are investigating circumstances under which, Simon Peter Oceng famous was Rev Oceng Amolo, a journalist of Shine Fm Oyam as allegedly assaulted by Oyam prominent business man.

Oceng, was allegedly assaulted by Stalon Olong, Chairperson Oyam Town council Business community at around 10Pm after the NRM talk show on shine Fm on Tuesday evening.

It all started when Philips Ogile, the NRM publicity entered the studio at the time Oceng was on air for his Shine Like A star Show and began accusing Oceng of playing campaign song for UPC flag bearer a head of NRM talk show.

However, after the talk show, Guests who participated in the NRM discussion got out and started harassing Oceng inform of Shine Fm Radio. From nowhere, Stalon Olong reportedly appeared and started slapping Oceng several times, leading to tension within the station

Oceng claimed that Olong got off from nowhere with some unknown and attack him, leaving him with bodily injuries which he is currently treating.

James Chris Woo, the Chairperson Oyam Journalist Association condemned the assault, labeling it as an attack on journalistic freedom and people’s right, which need urgent attention by human right actors.

Oyam district police commander, Innocent Mubangizi confirmed receiving and said police have commenced investigation into the matter.

When contacted for a comment, Stalon Olong dismissed the allegation saying he slept in Iceme Sub County on the day that the incident allegedly happened.

Recently, the NRM Electoral commission chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi condemned attacks on journalists saying it is a bad practice.

A case of assault has been registered at Oyam CPS under SD Ref number 21/28/06/2023.
