The Resident District Commissioner of Kibaale, Stephen Byaruhanga Mfashingabo, has directed the Chief Administrative Officer, John Katotoroma, to issue eviction notices to all people who have encroached on wetlands across the district.
Mfashingabo made the directive while addressing councilors during an extraordinary council sitting held on Thursday in the council hall.

He reveals that the district security committee has resolved to launch an operation to crack down on all individuals illegally occupying wetlands.
He further instructed the Chief Administrative Officer to work closely with parish chiefs to identify and document all wetland encroachers to ease enforcement during the operation.
Mfashingabo also urged the public to protect vital environmental resources in the district, including wetlands, forest reserves, and national parks.
According to the District Natural Resources Office, wetlands in Kibaale District have been degraded at a rate of about 30% as of 2022 and about 7 percent of the district’s total land area is covered by both seasonal and permanent wetlands.
