The public has been urged to process passports early to make it easier to travel abroad when the need arises.

Emmanuel Ecun, the Lango deputy Regional Immigration Officer, explained that many Ugandans only apply for passports when urgently seeking medical treatment or jobs abroad, which creates processing challenges.

Ecun also advised those seeking to process passports to work with legitimate companies or the Immigration Department, warning that some firms exploit applicants financially under the guise of offering assistance.

He also warned job seekers to be cautious and only work with genuine recruitment agencies that are approved by the government.

According to Ecun, some untrustworthy companies recruit workers whose passports are later seized, exposing them to abuse, with some even losing their lives due to poor treatment.
