Cook attacks lover, attempts suicide in Kibaale

A 25-year-old man, identified as Isaac Akankwasa, a cook at Busaana Inn Restaurant and Lodge, has been rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition after attempting suicide.

In an incident linked to infidelity, Akankwasa, early this week, cut his own throat after also attacking his lover, 23-year-old Racheal Kabasinguzi, who hails from Fort Portal City and is also a workmate at Busaana Inn Restaurant in Karuguuza ttown, Kibaale town council, Kibaale district.

Akankwasa, a resident of Ibanda district, used a sharp knife to cut Kabasinguzi’s neck, injuring her head and both hands in the process.

Kabasinguzi, currently admitted at Kibaale Health Center IV, confirmed that Akankwasa has been her lover. She explained that a misunderstanding erupted after Akankwasa learned that another man was planning to take her on an outing.

Kabasinguzi said she raised an alarm that attracted the attention of her workmates, who came to her rescue.

Joseph Ssaazi, the LC3 Chairperson of Kibaale town council and the owner of Busaana Inn Restaurant, revealed that Akankwasa had helped Kabasinguzi secure a job as the second cook. However, he was unaware that the two had been cohabiting.

By the time of filing this report, Karuguuza Police had recorded statements on the matter, and investigations were ongoing.
