At least 206 Coffee Farmers in Kibaale receive coffee fertilizers from Agriculture Ministry

The Government of Uganda through Ministry of Agriculture has supplied 21,300kgs of organic fertilizers to 206 selected coffee farmers in Kibaale district.

Hassan Matovu the acting district production officer Kibaale reveals that the ministry has donated 852 bags of 25kgs of Fertiplus organic fertilizers to support coffee farmers to improve both the quality and quantity of their yields.

He explains that fertilizer distribution was based on the number of stamped coffee trees each farmer received 100kgs of Fertiplus organic fertilizer emphasizing the farmers to have essential equipment in coffee farming including pruning saw, scissors among others.

The selected farmers were undergone hands-on training at the coffee plantation of Peter Mugenyi in Ngangi cell Kibaale town council, before the distribution that took place at the works yard on Wednesday afternoon.

David Nyakana on training farmers regarding stamped coffee trees

While training the farmers, David Nyakana the regional agricultural officer notes that the fertilizers should be applied to stamped coffee trees assuring them that those that are engaging themselves in stealing coffee and harvesting premature coffee will be prosecuted.

Officiating as the chief guest, Godfrey Muhonge Kasanga the district chairperson Kibaale expressed his optimism that fertilizers will boost coffee production in the district warning the beneficiaries not to sell the given fertilizers encouraging the coffee farmers also to integrate livestock keeping for the generation of organic manure.

Speaking to some beneficiaries have thanked the government for the support and promised to use the fertilizers effectively to improve their harvests.
