Farmers in Kabanda A and Kabanda B villages in Bubango Sub county, Kibaale District, are counting their losses after a heavy hailstorm destroyed several acres of crops.

The affected farmers report that a severe downpour, accompanied by strong winds and hailstones, hit the area last evening and lasted for about an hour.

The damaged food crops include cassava, banana plantations, pawpaws, beans, coffee and tomatoes, leaving many farmers devastated and uncertain about their next steps.

Stephen Barigeya, a maize farmer from Kabanda B village, said his two-acre maize garden was completely destroyed, with hailstones flooding the fields to the extent that they had to be removed using saucepans.

Barigeya added that three houses were unroofed by the strong winds and several domestic birds were killed, calling on the government, through the Office of the Prime Minister, and other political leaders for assistance.
