Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU), in partnership with Plan International, has distributed reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls at Ayago Primary School.

This support was provided under the Model School Health Programme, a project being implemented in around 130 schools across the Lango sub-region.

Speaking during the distribution exercise at Ayago Primary School in Lira City, the city schools inspector, Tom Ronald Omara, called for continued support to promote menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls, enabling them to continue their education without interruption.

Teddy Ajok, a senior woman teacher at Ayago Primary School, welcomed the initiative, saying that many girls at the school struggle during their periods, which affects their attendance and performance.

She stated that the Model School Health Programme is addressing this challenge, and the girls are now more confident about staying in school during their menstrual cycles.

Some of the schoolgirls who received the reusable sanitary pads expressed their gratitude.

David Okeng, the Social and Behaviour Change Coordinator for the project, said the intervention aims not only to improve menstrual hygiene but also to ensure girls remain in school, thereby helping to reduce early marriage and pregnancy.
