Gulu Police strike hard, capture 4 in targeted crime operation

A targeted intelligence-led operation in Gulu East Division on Monday evening resulted in the arrest of four suspects linked to a wave of criminal activities in Laliya Ward. This move comes as security agencies ramp up efforts to dismantle urban gangs and restore public order.

According to ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Regional Police spokesperson, the operation was executed at approximately 9:00 p.m. in Dwol Cell. The mission specifically targeted groups of youths accused of terrorizing local residents and causing persistent disturbances.

The four individuals currently in custody are, Okello Denis (20): Resident of Agonga Cell, Ocen Comboni (16): Resident of Kabedopong Cell, Laboke Moses (17) Resident of Laliya Cell and Omara Emmanuel (18) Resident of Obiya.

During the raid, police conducted thorough searches and recovered a variety of items suspected to be used in, or obtained through, criminal acts. The seized inventory includes, Pangas, knives, and housebreaking implements, Opium and marijuana and Mobile phones and plastic chairs.

This latest crackdown follows a significant joint operation by the police and the army on March 24, 2026, which disrupted multiple criminal cells across Gulu City.

Peter Banya, the Gulu City East Deputy Resident City Commissioner, reaffirmed the government’s stance, emphasizing that joint security patrols will remain active until these criminal elements are fully eliminated and the safety of the public is guaranteed.
