ATC, UNOC, and UCC launch digital community hub to boost skills in Nwoya

Hundreds of learners, teachers, and young entrepreneurs in Nwoya District are set to benefit from free digital skills training following the launch of a new Digital Community Centre by ATC Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

The facility, launched on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, aims to expand digital inclusion in Uganda’s oil-producing region by providing free access to computers, high-speed broadband internet, and digital learning resources.

Speaking at the launch, ATC Uganda Chief Executive Officer Dorothy Kabagambe Ssemanda emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring that connectivity creates tangible opportunities for local communities.

She added that the Nwoya hub marks the company’s 83rd Digital Community Centre established across Uganda.

UNOC Chief Executive Officer Proscovia Nabbanja highlighted that the partnership demonstrates the company’s focus on delivering lasting value to host communities beyond oil and gas production.

Nwoya District Woman Member of Parliament Lanyero Christine Awany welcomed the initiative, calling the center a transformative investment for the area. She urged the partners to eventually expand the curriculum to include vocational and practical hands-on skills to further boost youth employment.

Representing the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Assistant RDC Michael Opwonya expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda and its partners. He called on residents to make full use of the facility and safeguard the equipment against vandalism or misuse.

Local leaders remain optimistic that the hub will bridge the digital divide, improve local education standards, and unlock new economic opportunities for young people across Nwoya District and the broader Acholi Sub-region.
