UEDCL Gulu has partnered with the Uganda Red Cross Society and Uganda Blood Transfusion Services to organize a two-day blood donation drive on October 21–22, 2026. The initiative aims to save lives while providing electricity customer support services.

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has partnered with the Uganda Red Cross Society and Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) to organize a blood donation drive as part of its Customer Service Month.

The two-day exercise, scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, and Thursday, October 22, 2026, aims to mobilize community members to donate blood to patients in need of transfusions across the region.

UEDCL Gulu Area Manager Poline Karabyo said the initiative is intended to give back to the community while appreciating customers for their continued support.

Karabyo said the blood donation drive would benefit mothers in hospitals, accident victims, children, patients with chronic illnesses and others undergoing treatment.

She added that UEDCL would provide customer service support during the activities, allowing residents to seek assistance with new electricity connections, meter applications, inquiries and unresolved complaints.

Karabyo also encouraged residents using electricity through unauthorized connections to apply for legal connections, noting that illegal connections can affect the distribution network, including transformers and other infrastructure.

She said UEDCL has meters available and continues to connect customers, urging those without authorized connections to approach the company for assistance.

Meanwhile, Uganda Red Cross Society Gulu Branch Manager Robert Chaligonza said the organization would work closely with UEDCL and UBTS to mobilize blood donors and support the successful collection of blood units.

Chaligonza called on members of the public to participate in the exercise, emphasizing that donated blood is essential for saving the lives of patients requiring transfusions.

He also appealed to other institutions, companies and corporate organizations to emulate UEDCL by organizing similar humanitarian initiatives.

Chaligonza further encouraged residents to join the Uganda Red Cross Society as volunteers and members to support its humanitarian activities.
