Water crisis eases in Lugore, Gulu district

Residents of Lugore center in Owalo sub county Gulu district gathered during the commissioning of Borehole on 4 October 2026 by the woman member of Parliament Gulu district Hon. Ayoo Phoebe Obol.

Residents of Lugore Center in Owalo Sub-County Gulu district gathered on 4th October 2026   to celebrate the official commissioning of a newly drilled borehole, ending long standing water access challenges in the area and ushering in a wave of new development initiatives.

The vital clean water source was officially handed over to the community by Honorable Ayoo Phoebe, the woman member of parliament for Gulu district.

The borehole was funded and constructed with the help of Show Mercy International and Elijah Streams.

Speaking to the crowd, Hon. Ayoo commended the community for taking early ownership of the project by forming a dedicated water source committee to oversee its long-term management and maintenance.

Expressing his gratitude Mr Acire Patrick a resident of the area said that Prior to the drilling of the new borehole, community members were forced to rely on unsafe, open-flowing streams for their daily consumption. The lack of potable water posed ongoing health challenges and difficulties, particularly for vulnerable community members.

Speaking during the handover, the local leader, LC1 Chairman of Lugore center Mr. Latitlok Francis, expressed immense relief and gratitude as he reflected on the conditions in the area prior to the intervention.

Announcing a key agricultural push, Hon. Ayoo advised every household to plant at least two acres of cassava starting next year. She highlighted cassava as a resilient staple crop capable of safeguarding families against famine while generating household income.
