Gulu local leaders move to heal post-election divisions

Local leaders in Laliya Ward, Laroo-Pece City Division, Gulu City, have joined forces to pool their leadership efforts, build unity, and improve the living standards of their community members.
Mr. Ojara Michael, the LC1 Chairperson of Dwol Cell in Laliya Ward, explained that working together is essential to foster positive change and deliver inclusive, non-discriminatory leadership. He noted that unity is the key to preventing “divide and rule” tactics, ensuring every resident is served fairly regardless of their background.
Mr. Acaye Richard Button, the LC1 Chairperson of Laliya Tol Manwang Cell, safety and law enforcement are top priorities. He emphasised that local leaders are uniting to weed out criminal elements from the area, a task made critical by the absence of a nearby police post. Local authorities currently rely entirely on the distant Gulu West Central Police Station (CPS) for security support, making community-led vigilance vital.
Echoing these sentiments, Rt. Warrant Officer Class One Odong Francis Musa, the LC1 Chairperson of Hongkong Cell, added that this joint spirit aims to remove boundary-based friction between cells, ensuring seamless coordination across administrative lines.
Mr. Wegolonyo Boniface, the LC2 Chairperson of Laliya Ward, noted that this unity marks an important post-election reconciliation step. He observed that electoral campaigns often cause friction and step on toes, making a deliberate effort toward reconciliation necessary to move the ward forward together.
Hon. Otema Wilson Agemo, the Area Councilor IV for Laliya Ward, commended the newly elected local chairpersons for their proactive stance. He praised the visible improvements in local security, noting that Laliya Ward previously suffered a reputation for widespread anti-social behavior and crime, which is now being effectively turned around through united leadership.
