Gulu Institute of Health Sciences posts strong performance in June exams

Gulu Institute of Health Sciences and School of Nursing and Midwifery are celebrating excellent performance in the June 2026 examinations released by the Uganda Professional Health Assessment Board.

The institution’s management has attributed the success to the timely completion of the syllabus, regular assessments and high levels of discipline among students and staff.

Addressing the media yesterday at the school campus in Gulu City, the Dean of Students, Santo Banya, said the results released on Tuesday show a remarkable improvement in performance across all programmes compared with previous years.

The Academic Registrar, Lilly Grace Lalam, revealed that the institution registered outstanding results, with the Certificate in Nursing recording a 100 per cent pass rate, the Certificate in Midwifery 71 per cent, and the Diploma in Midwifery Extension 91 per cent.

Lalam said the achievement was a result of collective effort, hard work and commitment to academic excellence.

She applauded the students for their tireless efforts, thanked the academic staff for their dedication, and appreciated parents and the surrounding community for their continued support for the institution.

Similarly, the Principal in charge of Nursing and Midwifery programmes, Eunice Apio Owera, attributed the good performance to a conducive learning environment, a well-equipped skills laboratory for practical lessons, a functional computer laboratory, and guidance and counselling services provided to students.

The institution’s Director, Alfred Okwonga, further noted that strong mentorship by tutors and the availability of adequate learning resources have continued to give the institution an advantage.

According to the breakdown, 18 students passed the Certificate in Nursing, 14 passed the Certificate in Midwifery, while 16 students passed the Diploma in Midwifery Extension, among others.

Established in 2009, Gulu Institute of Health Sciences has consistently maintained a pass rate of above 85 per cent and has so far trained more than 3,500 health workers serving in various health facilities across the country.

Meanwhile, the institution says admissions for the January 2027 intake are ongoing and has called on prospective students to apply, reiterating its commitment to academic excellence and professionalism.
