A total of 208 graduates of the MTN Foundation digital skills programme in Angagura have been urged to use their knowledge to create jobs, start businesses and promote digital literacy in their communities, supporting youth empowerment and financial independence.
Graduates of an MTN Foundation digital skills programme in Angagura have been challenged to move beyond collecting certificates and use their new knowledge to create jobs, businesses and opportunities in their communities.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony at Angagura Sub-county headquarters on Thursday, Maendeleo Foundation Executive Director and Co-Founder Asia Kamukama said the 208 trainees from Angagura Sub County had demonstrated a strong appetite for digital knowledge.
She encouraged graduates to continue practising their skills and share their knowledge with family members, neighbours and other community members who did not get the opportunity to participate.
The Angagura sub county Community Development Officer CDO Vicky Vera Ocola urged young people to look beyond conventional employment and explore ways of creating their own livelihoods using the skills acquired.
She identified computer centres, printing, photocopying, typing, internet services and mobile money as some of the businesses graduates could explore.
Vera also encouraged the youth to overcome the fear of starting small, saying digital skills could provide a foundation for financial independence.
Graduate Akena Erick said the training had transformed his understanding of technology and exposed him to digital marketing, graphic design and financial literacy.
The programme is expected to help graduates apply digital skills in business, employment and education.
