Acholi sub-region formally endorses Gen. Muhoozi’s 2031 presidential bid

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in the Acholi sub-region has officially endorsed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential race.
The endorsement was formalized yesterday, during a regional assembly held at the TAK Center in Gulu City. The event brought together civic, political, and grassroots delegates representing all eight districts of the Acholi sub-region, alongside leaders from Kitgum Municipality and Gulu City.
Serving as the chief guest, retired Lt. Gen. Charles Otema Awany said that transition can never be prevented when the time comes. He Commended Gen. Muhoozi who serves as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) for starting the PLU pressure group.
Lt. Gen. Otema highlighted the CDF’s role in establishing the UPDF as one of the most disciplined military forces in Africa, while also crediting him with driving major infrastructure development across barracks nationwide. He urged the people of Acholi to embrace the PLU movement and rally behind its vision for national development.
The Acholi PLU Coordinator and Member of Parliament for Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu City, Hon. Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, clarified that the PLU is not a political party, but a registered civic organization and pressure group established to safeguard the achievements and legacy of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government and PLU’s core charter centers on fostering patriotism, combating corruption, and enhancing public service delivery nationwide.
He further cautioned PLU coordinators against overstepping their authority or exercising overbearing power over others, calling instead for unity among leaders and the general public to ensure the success of both the PLU initiative and the NRM.
