Fear and panic have gripped residents of Layibi in Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City, following a surge in criminal activities linked to the notorious ‘Aguu’ gang.
Residents of Layibi A and B cells say they now live in total fear, with many forced to lock themselves indoors as early as 8pm in the evening.
They say the gang moves with impunity – breaking padlocks, waylaying residents, stealing household property and even vandalizing private security cameras.
Another resident identified only as Stella says the night has become unbearable for the community.
But in response, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Laroo-Pece, Peter Banya has downplayed the claims, insisting the area is peaceful and security deployment has been intensified.
Despite the assurance from the Deputy RCC, the cries from the ground paint a different picture. The residents now want security to move from words to action and restore peace in Layibi.
