Preparations for the second edition of the Northern Uganda Film Awards (NUFA) are in high gear. Organizers have reported a 31 percent increase in film submissions ahead of the ceremony, which is scheduled for May 2, 2026, at the iconic Acholi Inn.
During a press conference on Thursday, NUFA President Ojok Odongo revealed that the awards received 92 entries this year—a significant jump from the 70 submissions recorded during the inaugural edition in 2025.
The panel of judges has completed its review, shortlisting 64 nominations across 15 competitive categories. Key awards to watch include, Best Actor & Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenwriter and Best Documentary
Organizers also confirmed that an honorary award will be presented to Bishop Macleod Baker Ochola. The bishop is being recognized for his lifelong contribution to peace building and his role in preserving the narratives of Northern Uganda.

NUFA Publicity Secretary Komakech Santos Moses explained that this year’s theme, “The Stories That Redefine Us,” underscores the power of cinema in shaping identity and safeguarding cultural heritage.
Richard Olara of the WOKOBER Education Foundation, a key partner for the event, welcomed the initiative. He emphasized that the film industry serves as a vital engine for economic empowerment.
The winners will be officially announced during the gala night on May 2 at Acholi Inn, Gulu City, with a massive turnout of filmmakers and stakeholders from across the region expected to attend.
