Nwoya county MP Urges Christians to Sacrificial Giving as He Unveils Holy Cross Chapel

The Member of Parliament for Nwoya County, Hon. Okello Charles Geoffrey, has called upon Christians to actively sacrifice their personal resources to support the construction and daily operations of local churches rather than depending on external donations.

Hon. Okello made the remarks on Saturday, August 15, 2026, during the official commissioning of the newly constructed Holy Cross Chapel Lukutu, located in Ima Cell, Lukutu Ward, Kochgoma Town Council.

The sanctuary was officially commissioned by the Vicar General of the Gulu Archdiocese, Msgr.Martine Agwee. Built to accommodate approximately 350 congregants, construction on the chapel began in early April 2026.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Okello highlighted that while local Christians contributed minor support toward the collaborative effort, the bulk of the funding came directly from his personal resources, totaling over UGX 130 million.

Reflecting on past experiences, he urged both the public and fellow political leaders to make good use of their financial means by investing in church development and community worship spaces.

Rev. Fr. Berry Apire, the Parish Priest of St. Andrew Bessette to which Holy Cross Chapel belongs commended Hon. Okello for his profound dedication and selflessness in financing the project.

During his homily, Msgr. Martine Agwee encouraged believers to view the church building not just as a physical structure, but as a true sanctuary and refuge during times of trial and personal hardship.
