Major boost for ICT education in Gulu District, as three secondary schools in the area receive brand-new laptop computers to aid digital learning and national exam preparations.
The equipment was officially delivered by Gulu District Woman Member of Parliament, Honorable Phoebe Ayoo Obol.The donation lobbied directly from the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-Uganda) aims to address acute shortages of computer equipment in rural government secondary schools.
Speaking to our reporter today, Honorable Ayoo emphasized that priority was given to schools facing the most severe resource constraints.
Under the distribution drive, Paicho Secondary School and Awach Secondary School received five computers each. Patiko Seed Secondary School secured the largest share of 10 laptops to cater to its high number of candidate students registered for this year’s UNEB Computer Studies examinations.
The Head teacher of Patiko Secondary School, Betty Oyella, commended the Ministry of Education, the Woman MP, and the Gulu District Education Department for stepping in at a crucial moment for candidates. She added that among the many challenges facing Patiko SS were lack of enough computers
Patiko SS Head Prefect, Sharon Acayo, added that the practical equipment will directly impact student performance.
Gulu District leadership has confirmed that efforts are already underway to lobby for additional computer sets to equip the remaining secondary schools in the district.
