27 pupils in Apac district attain first grade in 2026 Mock exams

Only 27 pupils who sat the 2026 Mock Examinations in Apac District attained First Grade, according to results released on wednesday at Apac District Council Hall.

A total of 2,027 candidates registered for the examinations this year across 52 schools with examination centres, compared with 1,793 candidates who sat the mock examinations in 2025.

Of the 2,079 candidates who sat the examinations, 1,716, representing 82.54 per cent, were from government schools, while 363, or 17.46 per cent, were from private schools.

Among the four primary-level subjects, English recorded the strongest performance, with 1,517 candidates passing. Mathematics followed with 1,336 passes, while Social Studies (SST) had 1,335. Integrated Science recorded the lowest performance, with 1,327 candidates passing.

Compared with the 2025 results, performance in English improved, while performance in Science declined.

The results further show that girls outperformed boys in Division U, with 455 girls attaining the division compared with 368 boys. However, boys performed better than girls in English, SST and Integrated Science.

Halco Primary School emerged as the district’s best-performing school, with seven candidates attaining Division One, followed by Chegere Primary School.

The weakest performance was recorded at Akokoro Primary School, where all 34 candidates who sat the examination were placed in Division U.

At Alado Primary School, 20 candidates sat the examination. Only one attained Division Four, while the remaining 19 were placed in Division U.

The best-performing candidate was a boy from Halco Primary School, who attained an aggregate of seven. The best-performing girl came from Chegere Primary School, with an aggregate of 10.

Speaking during the release of the results, Apac District Speaker Hon Oscar Ogwang Odule, who also represents the District Chair, commended teachers in Apac Sub-county for their hard work, noting that the area ranked second in the district’s overall performance.

Odule called on schools to work closely with parents and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) leaders to ensure transparency over the amount of money collected from parents for each child. He said government funding was not sufficient to meet all school infrastructure needs.

Apac District acting Education Officer Mr Ocen Patrick said all schools are expected to reopen for the new term on Monday, 14 September.

He urged head teachers to avoid sending pupils home unnecessarily and encouraged schools to hold staff meetings before the beginning of the new term.

Ocen also warned schools against sending pupils home for failure to pay school fees, particularly those enrolled under the government’s Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme. He said schools found violating the policy would face disciplinary action.

He further urged schools to plant trees around their compounds to protect buildings from strong winds and other environmental hazards. He cited Aketo Primary School, where strong winds reportedly blew off part of the roof, as an example of the risks associated with inadequate tree cover.

The head teacher of Chegere Primary School, Mr Ogwang Etum Alex, attributed the school’s strong performance to the continued commitment of teachers and parents.

He said the school had maintained good performance in recent years and appealed to parents to ensure their children return to school on time when the new term begins.

Sub-county Performance

At sub-county level, Amilo Primary School and Apele Primary School were the best performers in Ibuje Sub-county.

In Apac Sub-county, Akuli Primary School led, followed by Olelpek Primary School.

In Akokoro Sub-county, Halco Primary School emerged as the best performer, followed by Kungu Primary School.

In Chegere Sub-county, Chegere Primary School led, followed by Adem Primary School.

In Teboke Sub-county, Ololango Primary School emerged top, followed by Olee Primary School.

Apoi Sub-county, which was the lowest-performing sub-county in the district, was led by Alaro Primary School, followed by Abuge Primary School.
