As Uganda continues to confront corruption and misuse of public resources, the anti-corruption spotlight has turned to Apac District Local Government, where 19 government employees have been interdicted over alleged irregularities involving government restocking funds.

Apac District Chief Administrative Officer, Emmy Ejuku, confirmed the development while addressing journalists at his office, revealing that the affected employees had been issued interdiction letters to pave the way for investigations.

According to Ejuku, preliminary concerns centre on the selection of beneficiaries, with some officials suspected of conducting activities contrary to established government guidelines.

The CAO maintained that the interdictions were carried out within his legal mandate and in accordance with public service regulations, stressing the need to establish the facts without interference.

Ejuku revealed that approximately UGX 43 million in allegedly misappropriated restocking funds had already been recovered and deposited into the government’s Disaster Recovery Account.

He further disclosed that the Office of the Prime Minister and Parliament had been notified about the matter.

The development raises important questions about accountability, transparency and the effectiveness of monitoring government programmes intended to support vulnerable communities.

Attention now turns to the ongoing investigations, which are expected to establish the extent of the alleged irregularities and determine whether further administrative or legal action is warranted.
