Flooding has caused significant damage to roads rehabilitated at a cost of 480 million shillings in Chawente and Atongtidi subcounty, Kwania district.
Calvin Odwono, a resident of Apwori, has criticised district leaders for allocating part of the one billion shillings intended for road rehabilitation to projects that do not effectively serve the local community, while neglecting crucial routes like Abali, which is vital for the local fish trade.
Patrick Onyum Okwang, the LC3 chairman of Atongtidi, noted that the road from Atongtidi to Abali has remained in disrepair for an extended period, despite its significance in generating revenue for the district.
Kwania district’s woman MP, Kenny Auma Lapat, who also chairs the roads committee of Amolatar district, stated that the one billion shillings received from the government was allocated to the rehabilitation of the Bala-Kwania-Apac, Aboko-Atongtidi-Alido, and Apac-Atongtidi-Nambeso roads. Auma further noted that the rehabilitation of the Abali road is already included in the district’s budget.
Geoffrey Alex Ogwal, the LCV chairman of Kwania, stated that the government’s equal allocation for road rehabilitation across all districts is insufficient for addressing the needs of roads in remote areas, such as those near landing sites.
