Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Education Committee, Molly Asiimwe Musiime, has pledged to present the challenges facing Dokolo district’s education department at the upcoming Northern region parliamentary sitting.
Asiimwe, who is also the MP for Rwampara district, made the commitment on Tuesday during a monitoring visit by the committee to gather information on challenges facing schools in Dokolo district, including Dokolo Technical School, Amatiburu Primary School, and Okwongodul Lake Side Secondary School.
Asiimwe stated that some of the challenges identified at the schools include a lack of teachers’ accommodation, poor infrastructure, insufficient desks, and inadequate classrooms, among others. Another issue is the delay in fulfilling President Yoweri Museveni’s pledge of iron sheets, funds, and a school bus for Dokolo Technical School and Amatiburu Primary School.
Sara Aguti Nyangkori, Dokolo district’s woman MP and a member of the education committee, said these challenges will be presented at the parliamentary regional sitting in Gulu.
Julius Acon, MP for Otuke East, said the collected challenges will be discussed to prompt action from the government.
James Otoo Apili, the district chairman of Dokolo, requested the committee’s support in addressing the challenges facing the education department in the district. David Eryatu, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Dokolo, urged the committee to ensure the takeover of eight community schools in the district.
Docus Dolly Kuna, the Headmistress of Okwongodul Lake Side Secondary School, said the school urgently needs an administration block, a multipurpose hall, a library, and a computer laboratory.
