Poor administration blamed for poor PLE performance in Kitgum

The poor performance registered in Kitgum district in the just released results for the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations – PLE has been blamed on poor administration in government schools to follow up on plans and scheme of work.

Our of the 3,695 candidates who sat for 2022 PLE in Kitgum district, only 27 scored first grade, 786 in second grade, 8603 in third grade, 721 fourth grade, 1,198 were ungraded and 103 candidates were absent.

The gaps in administration were identified during a meeting held Monday in the district council hall with head teachers of Kitgum district schools, the district officials as well as sub county officials aimed at identifying causes of the alarming performance and finding lasting solutions.

According to the Kitgum District Senior Inspector of Schools, Mrs. Hellen Toorach, their findings have found that most teachers are not using the abridged curriculum adding that even head teachers are not supervising teachers and learners’ routine of week schedule in terms of absenteeism.

Meanwhile James Mr. Awata head teacher of Namokora primary school blames the disappointing performance on poor attitude towards education among rural parents. He also says most children have resorted to reckless lifestyles such as alcoholism, attending night discos among others.

Toorach John, the Omiya Anyima Sub County Chief noted that education is a collective responsibility and asked the district to set a standard price for PTA fees in all schools in the district.
