Police issue security warning ahead of Christmas and New Year

The police in Aswa East have issued warnings as Christmas and New Year celebrations near.

While briefing journalists on Tuesday afternoon from the Aswa East Police Headquarters in Kitgum town, Assistant Commissioner of police Anatoli Katungwensi, the Aswa East Regional Police Commander asked the public to be be vigilant since terrorists and people with ill intentions tend to take advantage of the festive season to wage attacks.

He also noted that motorists and pedestrians should move cautiously and asked motorists to desist from driving under the influence of alcohol.

ACP Katungwesi also warned that event’s organizers must first secure the permission from the Inspector General of Police on time to avoid inconveniences. He added that those who plan to have fireworks should equally work with the police to avoid inflicting physical or psychological danger to the public since fireworks are classified as explosives.

Katungwesi revealed that they are currently carrying out patrols to weed out wrong elements like the Aguu so that calm is restored in major towns in Aswa East. He asked parents to prevail over their children because once they are arrested, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
