As the new school term officially opened on the 5th February 2024, Ayu Anaka primary school in Palabek Gem sub-county Lamwo District lacks water source since the only borehole is broken.

On Monday morning, our assessment revealed that over 300 pupils reported to begin the term but their stay at the school is greatly hampered by the fact that the borehole and the tap water system are non-functional.

Mr. Anywar Fred Dan alias Kajik, an activist, revealed that several pleas to the district for interventions have fallen on deaf ears.

He noted that its bothering to note that despite Palabek Refugees Settlement having hundreds of non-governmental organizations, a school that neighbors the camp lacks clean water to aid learning.

Hon Oyella Joyce, the female councilor for Palabek Gem and Abera sub-counties cited laxity among technocrats for the delayed intervention.

She appeals to the development partners to come to the school’s rescue since learning cannot effectively take place without water.
