In a bid to monitor the performance and absenteeism of teachers in schools, the ministry of Education and sports under its Teachers Effective Learners Achievement (TELA) program has equipped 112 head teachers in Kitgum District with smartphones.
The system which is operated on mobile devices with an android system will ensure teachers are monitored right from their arrivals at school.
While officiating at the handover of the phones to the different primary school head teachers at the district council hall on Tuesday morning, Mr. Arwayi Christopher Obol the Kitgum district chairperson said the ministry’s intervention will increase teachers’ efficiency thus improved performance.
Mr. Eugene Emmanuel Olaro, the Kitgum District acting Chief Administrative Officer – CAO said the technology brings a sigh of relief since teachers will now be paid for the number of days they work.
He however said that the technology will be hampered by data subscription, power supply, absenteeism of head teachers from schools and network coverage among others.
Meanwhile, Mr. Allan Kyekitalo, a systems support officer at the ministry said the smartphones will be loaded with six-months of data and afterwards; the schools will have to take up internet subscription. He had more to say about the technology.
