Lamwo district on Sunday, January 19, 2025, registered eight new suspected cases of cholera, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 98 in the past 11 days since the outbreak was confirmed on January 7, 2025, in Agoro subcounty, Lamwo district. Of the 98 cumulative cases, 52 are female, while 46 are male.
The District Health Officer for Lamwo, Dr. Omoya Denis Ochula, detailed in a situational report on Sunday, January 19, 2025, that 89 patients (40 male and 49 female) have been discharged from Agoro Health Center.
The report also revealed that 254 contacts were treated at home, and 123 households were provided with water purifiers for water treatment.
Dr. Ochula added in the report that the eight new suspected cases (two females and six males) are confirmed RDT cases and were admitted to Agoro Health Center III. However, he noted that the department is facing challenges such as low motivation and facilitation for staff and Village Health Teams (VHTs), inadequate support for responding health workers, and a lack of fuel for monitoring, surveillance, and community engagement activities.
Dr. Omoya also noted that cholera screening has been intensified at border points of entry, including Agoro, Madi Opei, Aweno-Olwiyo, Ngomoromo, and Waligo, to prevent the further spread of the disease.
