The Lutheran World Federation – LWF Uganda on Wednesday, 11th December 2024 took fun, love, and unity to refugees in Palabek Refugee Settlement, in Lamwo district through a cultural gala that brought together the different tribes/ethnic groups.
The Galla was spiced with activities such as cultural dances and food exhibitions. It was held at Glory Land Primary School in Zone 3 and brought together 15 tribes/ethnicities.
Among the tribes that participated in the cultural dances and food exhibition included; Dingka, Nweri, Congolese, Panyigwara, Bari, Murule, Lobit, Balanda, Jaluo, and Madi.
Mr. Oyoti Moses, a mental health and social support officer at LWF said the activities aim to promote peace among the host and the refugee communities and unite the diverse groups in the settlement.
Mr. Oyoti added that the cultural gala also aims to reduce frustrations, stress, and psychological distresses that are common among refugees due to the breakdown of social, cultural, and spiritual domains, thus creating lasting benefits to the mental health of people of concern.
He noted that the cultural gala creates a sense of belonging and helps refugees reconnect to their cultures.
Mr. John Paskwale Odo the Refugee Welfare Officer said the event also aims to eliminate hatred among the refugees in the settlement.
He said his office is sensitizing the refugees on cultural promotion, peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.
