The Joint Security Forces in Kitgum, led by the police, arrested 56 people on Wednesday who were found moving past midnight.

ASP Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander (DPC), stated that the joint security forces have launched night operations during the festive season to dismantle criminal gangs and ensure law and order is maintained.

He explained that the 56 individuals would be screened, and those found to be involved in criminal activities would be charged in court. The innocent ones would be released with a caution against night-time movement.

ASP Oyesigye revealed that some of those arrested were found in possession of housebreaking tools and sharp objects, which they use to attack people during the night.

According to Oyesigye, around 25 members of criminal gangs have been arrested, prosecuted, and are currently serving their sentences.

He called for heightened community vigilance during this festive season and warned against night-time movement to avoid becoming victims of gang attacks or being arrested by security teams on night patrol.
