Kitgum District Local Government on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, received the final consignment of essential medicines for the Financial Year 2025/2026.

The drugs were delivered by the National Medical Stores (NMS) and will be distributed immediately to all health facilities across the district, including Pajimo Army Health Centre, to ensure continuous access to medical services.

The Vice Chairperson of Kitgum District, Hon. Opon Smith, said the medicines will help improve healthcare service delivery in the district. He encouraged residents to seek treatment from health facilities instead of delaying when they fall sick.

Hon. Opon also called upon health workers to serve patients with respect, professionalism, and compassion, noting that quality service delivery remains key to improving public health.

Kitgum District Health Officer, Dr. Okello Henry Otto, said the medicines would be distributed to all health facilities without delay to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. He thanked the Ministry of Health, National Medical Stores, and the Government of Uganda for consistently ensuring a timely supply of essential medicines.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Chua West Constituency, Mr. Okidi Joseph, said the drugs received are sufficient and will support health facilities until the next supply cycle. He cautioned health workers against mismanagement of medicines, warning that anyone found culpable would face disciplinary action.

Mr. Okidi further urged health workers to remain committed to their duties and work hard to ensure communities are protected from communicable diseases through effective healthcare service delivery.
